Religious tourism in Agistri island

In the capital of Agistri island, Megalochori, visitors can admire for its old murals, the Church of Zoodochos Pigi (Life Giving) in the village center (1885), which is also the Cathedral of the island. It celebrates on Easter Friday and there is a festival. The church is a basilica with a dome which was built in 1885 and is decorated with renaissance wall paintings, which were created by Andriano Stamatiadis.

Also in the beautiful fishing village of Skala it is worth visiting the white Church of Saint Anargiron with the light blue dome.

Because Aegina island is located a short distance from Agistri, about 10 minutes, there are day trips from Agistri to Aegina for religious tourism, where the visitors can get back late at night. with the boat Agistri Express.

A magnet for visitors in Aegina is the Monastery of Agios Nektarios and the Monastery of Panagia Chrysoleontissa, with most tourists being locals and combining their holiday in Agistri with their pilgrimage to Saint Nektarios and other religious sights in Aegina.
